Why Books Are The Ultimate New Business Card | Fast Company   Leave a comment

“Call it a business card, a resume, a billboard, or whatever you choose, but the short of it is that books are no longer just books. They are branding devices and credibility signals. To lovers of books, I’m sure this will all sound like bad news. But to non-fiction authors, it’s a reality. In some ways, it’s also a bit of a relief and an opportunity. No one is asking you to write the Great American Novel. Nor do you need to sell a million copies. You just need to own and present an interesting idea to the right people.”

AN : so what is a book for ? Leveraging an author’s reputation for monetary purposes ? To attract speaking engagements ? To bolster your personal brand ? There will be many motivations to write ( non-fiction category ) a book but should there not be a core value attached to the book , ie have something of value  to say to your reading audience and a permanent mode to record and convey the communication piece?

What Is the Lab? | BMW Guggenheim Lab   Leave a comment

Novel , innovative interaction by the people for the people to discuss urban ideas ; their ideas in their cities. The process learnt is adaptable to any other city. Will be interesting to see the outcome and results from the 9 city , 6 year journey.

“The BMW Guggenheim Lab launches in New York from August 3 to October 16, 2011, before traveling to Berlin and a city in Asia, to be announced later this year. Cycle 1 concludes with an exhibition presented at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in 2013. Two additional two-year cycles will follow, each with a new mobile structure and theme, concluding in the fall of 2016.

Part urban think tank, part community center and public gathering space, the Lab is conceived to inspire public discourse in cities around the world and through the BMW Guggenheim Lab website and online social communities.”

How the ‘ecosystem’ myth has been used for sinister means | Environment | The Observer   Leave a comment

How the ‘ecosystem’ myth has been used for sinister means | Environment | The Observer.

I post this because it reflects a number of principles in the dynamic of human society  :

1. That some of the actions and movements within socity today can be understood in terms of biological systems …or maybe understood ( a theory is a theory …unless it imperceptably becomes closer to reality and the truth due to repetitive and rigorous testing of the hypothesis ).

2. That sometimes we can better understand today’s thinking because it actually has roots in earlier thinking , whose authors are now gone but whose concepts are not , but persist  in some morphed form or other.

3. Altruistic power is an ideal  but  mostly exists as an oxymoron or as a double standard …what applies to you does apply to you ( and only you ) , but what applies to you does not necessarily apply to me.

Orwell’s Animal Farm said it best ” all animals are equal…just some are more equal than others  ( paraphrased ) “.
